Aqueduct

Happy birthday to me. I'm 19...Yay.....

Aqueduct
Label: Barsuk
Genre: Lo-Fi, Bedroom Pop

With beeps and whirrs and sometimes silly lyrics, Aqueduct will synth his way into your heart. This basically one man project is delightfully poppy while still carrying some levels of complexity. It's also going to make you want to buy a whole bunch of keyboards and write/record songs in your room. Good luck....

If your keyboard venture doesn't work out, you should buy his album I Sold Gold. There's only one track that's slightly unlikeable.

21.6.05

I've decided that until I think of a good name for an actual site, my xanga will become the place where I post links to good music, A sort of mp3 blog and music discussion site if you will, where I talk about artists I find and give access to those artists' music. It's all legal and all virus free, I promise. No seriously, no feds will bust your heads for downloading this. So enjoy without worries.

Someone Else

Label: unfoundsound
Genre: Pop, Electronic, Beats, Experimental

For my first post I thought it would be best if I started with something interesting and weird for a serious listen or two, yet catchy and dancey enough for you also not care and just get up and move. Someone Else fits the bill, and  their music is as quirky and oddly humorous as their name sounds in that last phrase. I would suggest checking out Goofball for an interesting use of mouth clicks as part melody/ part support percussion.  Even after the gimmick wears off, I'm sure you'll still be satisfied with the the song's strong and danceable supporting beat.

Being as this is my first post in the new direction, please let me know what you think, whether it's worth it or if I'm just wasting my time

The Lovekevins
Label: none
Genre: Indie, Swedepop

I stumbled across the Lovekevins while just surfing the internet, and needless to say, I was impressed by the catchy hooks, sweet melodies, and semi lo-fi charm that the swedish group produces. These are three out of four tracks from their independently released Blame The English EP, a 7" that may be difficult to get in the states. Believe me, this is infectious pop. These mp3s will hold you over until an official US release. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go listen to these three songs over and over again.

Death From Above 1979
Label: Vice
Genre: Rock, Dance?...

Take two Canadians who really want to rock, give one a bass, the other a drum set and provide them with some very loud sound equipment. Meet Death From Above 1979, a crazy two-piece, balls-out version of the White Stripes whose music will want to make you dance and beat people up at the same time. It's thick, raunchy, and will stick to your lungs and ears. If you don't like it at first, give it another listen, I'm sure it'll grow on you.

Wir Sind Helden
Label: Virgin
Genre: Deutsch-pop, Rock, Alternative

Wir Sind Helden, translated as "We Are Heroes" Hails from Germany and has enjoyed some reasonable success in their Vaterland. I was introduced to them a few years back while spending a year as an exchange student and found their simple pop structure and melodies pretty catchy. I had all but forgotten them until I was flipping through the channels at a friend's house during a party last weekend (Theme: Paranormal Formal), and happened to stumble upon their video "Nur Ein Wort" at 2AM on some local access channel. Again, I found myself bobbing my head to their lighthearted sound. This is not deep, thoughtful music, but its sound has the potential to make your day brighter. And they have a key-tar to boot.

Sadly they do not have any mp3s posted for downloading, but I can provide some links to videos and music clips on their website.
